Risca Colliery, Crosskeys

As is the case with many of the old collieries in South Wales the name of the colliery doesn't give any indication to its correct location. The Risca Colliery stretched from Tredegar Street , Crosskeys to Beechwood Avenue in Wattsville. It wasn't situated in Risca or even the Parish of Risca . The earlier Risca Pit known locally as the Blackvein Colliery was situated in the Parish of Machen. Photograph contributed by Mr. & Mrs D.John
