Blackvein Colliery Disaster 
14th January 1846 (36 killed)

I dream I see the men's tears
on their scaly skin like a river
with the sadness, 
showing throughout the circulating area of Risca.

Oh so sorrowful to see the grieving
after the people who suffocated underground,
wives shouting for their husbands
and children in deep thoughts.

The young girls throughout the neighbourhood
are in some sort of cold mourning and longing
for their gentle lovers,
in the damp, they suffocated.

Some say one was on the verge of marriage
to a suitably attractive girl
Instead of marrying the attractive maiden
through the damp, the boy went.

From the shame of the accident,
people are grieving, instant history,
wives, children, are all complaining,
never will their relatives come back to them.

This is done for dear Welsh people
everyone to attack one's tasks
death for all, sure to come
oh, to be ready and faithful.

On the 14th day of January
people saw there was sadness
over in Risca, one has to mention
that the damp caused terrible damage

No men or man, the place and mountain
all worries are freed at end of life,
there are many in the Dead Sea,
who knows what modes of bitter worries

Rocks, forests, i tell you,
many things ravaged by fire,
from the fiery, awful, element,
there was a bitter accident in Risca.

In the short morning of a Wednesday,
to their work as usual the men went,
without thinking of the greatness on their heels,
worries, king of horrors.

The damp lit, despite large sadness,
in the work underground,
worries were turned to judgement day,
thirty six lives.

The wind blew one of the men
all over the place, according to unique history,
when on the mountain, he had a minute
to walk the way of no return.

Thirteen people came up first,
thoughts were that they had suffocated
and not one person born into this life,
could explain how hard it was to see them.

Who could put the situation into words?
of how much sadness there was in Risca,
20 men with the 16 men
came to an end in one instant.

One man whilst escaping for his life
in terror found a child
in the mouth of the pit, he carried this child,
it was his own son.

Who could comprehend his feelings,
when he saw he was helping his own son,
he thought his son was going to die
from the damp, oh what longing!

His own father came for him
at the time he had a horrible wound
when they went in one moment,
36 for eternal life.

Mothers and fathers are in mourning,
for their children, let them be an example to all of us,
and the widowed wives can be seen,
mourning for their lost ones.

Losing a husband for a wife is hard,
losing a beloved child,
because of this, lots of people
are weeping floods of tears in Risca.
